Clearly we can dance. And it. is. good. Today at our pep rally, a few teachers were recruited to dance to the Beach Boys' Surfin' USA. Here's a little video.

The budget has finally opened and our clay order was approved. For the first semester 850 lbs was ordered and I went down to east Austin and picked it up in my Rav4. The ride back to Taylor was sluggish, but it will be so worth it. I lucked out when I arrived at the high school to run into one of my intermediate ceramic students, Ethan. He helped me unload and deliver the clay to my classroom. And a bonus, the rain stayed away until I was pulling away from the school. I know the ceramic students will be super excited to receive their clay bag on Monday.
The year has started off strong. Art 1 has created ceramic monster pinchpots. In fact, they are in the kiln cooling as I type this. All ceramic classes have been working on totem spoons. The totem tells a story and the spoon is a symbol of sharing. So, each young artist is sharing a bit about themselves. Art 2 jumped right into our first unit theme of man/machine.

AuthorMrs. Barnett, Art Teacher Extraordinaire. But really, the students create the awesomeness on this page. The Living Painting ExperimentThe living painting is a 36"X40" canvas that the students are free to work on and add to as they have extra paint or are finished with their work. The work will continue to evolve as students add and cover.
