Duck Art Studio
2019-2020
Mrs. Barnett
This post will provide the necessary information for you to be successful in art class. The information provided will be for the following art classes, unless noted otherwise:
- Art 1
- Art 2: Painting/Drawing
- Art 2: Beginning Ceramics
- Art 3: Intermediate Ceramics
As a student in one of these classes, you will learn how to think and behave like an artist. The focus of my art classes will take you through the Artistic Thinking Process, from concept (idea) through art making and revision to final product and critique. While the final product is important, the process and behaviors learned throughout the process are just as, if not more, important.
You will learn new techniques, new media, and meet new artists through a myriad of activities that include short demos, practice activities, choice-based studio assignments, and a reflection process.
I have created an artist studio environment for you, which in order to run properly and efficiently, it requires the following from you.
Expectations:
- Plan, organize & explore art making and art making processes.
- Take responsibility for workspace, materials, and missed classes.
- Maintain appropriate interactions with staff and other students.
- Maintain a level of self-learning/self-initiative. You will not improve if you continuously rely on the teacher for everything.
- A willingness to explore, experiment, take risks, and fail. From those things, you will learn and grow as an artist and as a person.
If you are absent, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to find out what you missed & make it up ASAP.
Materials:
A pencil will be needed daily. You will need to bring your charged laptop with you. As the year progresses, you will find there may be other materials that are requested you bring to class. You are also encouraged to bring any needed art supplies that you may want for your artwork that I do not have in the studio.
